Online Video Content Is Getting Ridiculously Crowded in 2014

Every day I wake up and read the CynopsisDigital. If many of you don't know what it is let me explain. Its a daily email newsletter that pops up around 1a.m. in my inbox explaining the biggest news in tech and media. It's the biggest headlines broken down into Twitter like posts. It's a great way to stay informed and even stay ahead.

Recently however, I noticed that past few months have been filled with video mergers, or new video shows, new verticals, blah, blah blah. It's starting to sound like a bunch of mush to me. My mind starting doing what it does best and connect the dots. I realized if I keep reading any more of these articles on more video, I would be swimming in this pool of content, leaving me to decipher what the hell is what and where do I find it. I mean really, how many platforms do I really need to be on to get all my news, or videos I like to watch? From what I can see there is way to many choices and it's only getting worst with the proliferation of smartphones and content creators.

I read a book several years back called "The Cult of the Amateur". It basically stated that because of all the digital channels everyone essentially has a voice and that everyone claims to be a writer just because they blog. Or a film maker just because they make youtube videos. Well...it seems as if the predictions of this book have come to fruition.

I think the challenge as I see it moving forward is how do we organize all this data into an easy to use app or world where everyone has a stake and everyone has voice or planet. With so much information finally on the web and now billions of video footage uploaded daily, how do we make sense of it all? How do we get to the semantic web?

For me, It would seem like there has to be a new layer added to the web, where all the current information acts as metadata and this new layer filters it all to make it an easy and enjoyable experience while surfing the web. We may just have the answer so stay tuned.
